Travis Garland had spent years performing professionally.
As a former member of the boy band NLT and a vocalist on Dancing with the Stars, he knew what it meant to entertain an audience.
But America’s Got Talent was a different challenge.
For his audition, Travis chose one of rock’s most demanding songs…
Aerosmith’s Dream On.
From the first verse, his voice filled the theater with emotion and power.
As the performance built, he reached the legendary high notes that had made the song famous.
Then came the dramatic moment.
In the middle of the performance, Travis ripped off his glasses and threw them aside, adding even more intensity to the finale.
The audience erupted.
The judges, however, didn’t completely agree.
Mel B loved every second of it, praising the soul, passion, and power in his voice.
Howie Mandel felt the performance was a little too theatrical.
Sofía Vergara and Simon Cowell admired Travis’s incredible vocals but suggested that a different song might have showcased his talent even better.
When it was time to vote…
Travis received three “Yes” votes and advanced to the next round.
His journey didn’t end there.
Simon later selected him for the Judges’ Callbacks, where Travis returned with an emotional performance of Rihanna’s Love on the Brain.
This time, he impressed the judges once again and earned a place in the live quarterfinals.
Sometimes, the judges don’t all agree…
But great talent always finds a way through.
